Jurnal Al-Hikmah: Jurnal Dakwah was first published in June 2007 (Volume I, Issue 1). The journal was established to respond to the growing intellectual need for systematic scholarship on contemporary issues in Islamic da'wah (proselytization) and communication, providing a platform for both empirical research and critical review articles from contributors across Indonesia and International.

The journal is published by the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Dakwah (Faculty of Islamic Theology, Humanities, and Da'wah) at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is registered under ISSN 1978-5011 (print) and E-ISSN 2502-8375 (online).

Since its founding, Al-Hikmah has expanded from a locally circulated print periodical into an open-access, peer-reviewed e-journal managed through the Open Journal System (OJS), broadening its readership and contributor base to a national scale. Its scope covers Islamic da'wah, religious communication, guidance and counseling (bimbingan dan konseling), and related studies in Islamic thought and society.

The journal is currently indexed in Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital) and accredited under Indonesia's national SINTA (Science and Technology Index) system, reflecting its ongoing commitment to editorial quality, consistent publication scheduling, and rigorous peer review as it works toward broader international indexing.
