Abstract

This article analyzes aspects of Borneo culture in the curriculum document of the Pontianak State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN Pontianak) as academic distinction expressed in the Institution’s vision. By using a research and development approach, this study analyzes the curriculum documents in effect at IAIN Pontianak as the basis for its research and the conceptual refinement leading to its development. This aspect is called strengthening the vision of Borneo culture, which is proclaimed as a scientific discipline at IAIN Pontianak, with the main findings as follows: first, the need to affirm the concept and implementation of Borneo's cultural vision in the applicable curriculum document; second, the need to complete the Course Syllabus (RPS)  for each course offered based on Islamic studies and Borneo Culture; third, the need for additional components that supports the strengthening of the vision of Borneo culture as a scientific discipline at IAIN Pontianak such as a consortium of Borneo Islamic and Cultural Studies lecturers, the Center for Borneo Islamic and Cultural Studies, as well as partnership at the local level, to the Borneo archipelago region, especially Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. The results of this study are expected to enrich and make important contributions to efforts to strengthen scholarly distinction within the State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN), where the strengthening of the Borneo Cultural Vision as a scientific discipline at IAIN Pontianak adds a new dimension to scholarly distinctions that have been built at several PTKIN, especially State Islamic Universities.
